Don't Let Climate Change Drift to the Back Burner

There is a beautiful California Summer coming up, there is no doubt. Let's not forget that global warming is still a threat, though.

MURRIETA, CA--As the Summer season ramps up and the weather begins to warm once again, it can become easy for one to forget the incredibly unusual stormy weather that occurred earlier in the year. We must not let ourselves forget, though; if we do, then the cycle of climate change will continue. Instead, even as our weather here in Murrieta begins to equalize, we need to think of ways to mitigate global warming, so that more storms like those experienced in the Fall and Winter do not occur again.

My primary suggestion, and perhaps one informed by the more inviting weather that Summer in Southern California offers, is to utilize bikes or walking if you plan on going somewhere near where you live. Especially in Murrieta, the most desirable locations are reasonable distances away from the most densely populated areas if one pursues the journey on a cycle, or on foot; I, at one point, even walked to work every morning because it was so close. If biking or walking is not a reasonable goal, though, then sharing a vehicle helps, too, or making use of the local public transit agency. I know it’s not fair of me to expect everyone to bend to one solution despite individuals having unique lives and routines–thankfully, for that reason, there are multiple remedies.

With that, it is my hope that all of those reading have a pleasant end to the school year, and a nice beginning to Summer. Let’s just keep in mind that there is still work to be done regarding unusual storm systems despite the idyllic climate.
