Murrieta Border Patrol Agents Save Crash Victim Trapped In Burning Car
The two-vehicle crash was reported Tuesday morning at the Temecula Parkway offramp at northbound Interstate 15 in Temecula.
TEMECULA, CA — U.S. Border Patrol agents stationed out of Murrieta saved an unconscious crash victim trapped inside her burning sedan, authorities announced Thursday.

Agents assigned to the Theodore Newton and George Azrak Border Patrol Station spotted the wreckage.

"One vehicle was engulfed in smoke with an unconscious woman trapped inside," the local agency reported. " ... the vehicle remained in drive with the tires continuing to spin."
Agents tried opening the white sedan's locked doors but had to resort to breaking the vehicle's windows instead.

Once they got to the victim, agents removed her foot from the gas pedal, put the car in park, and got her out of harm's way.
In the process, agents suffered scrapes, cuts and smoke inhalation, according to the agency.
San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel praised the agents’ actions.
“Our agents are heroes on a daily basis," she said. "They consistently exhibit dedication and courage beyond the call of duty, as they did during this incident. This stands as a testament to our agents’ unwavering commitment to serving our communities.”
First responders arrived on scene and the woman was transported to a nearby hospital. An update on her condition was unavailable.
