Murrieta Cops Nab Suspect At Cal Oaks Sports Park: Cops

Patrol officers identified a suspect, found with a concealed weapon, methamphetamine, burglary tools, and more.

MURRIETA, CA — "Now, that's a knife." Murrieta Police Officers said of a New Year's Eve arrest near Cal Oaks Sports Park.

Colby Sands, of Murrieta, was arrested and held at the Southwest Detention Center on $60,000 bail on multiple charges, including possession of a concealed dagger and possession of metal knuckles, both felonies.

Shortly before 11 a.m., officials said officers arrived at the sports park and identified a suspicious man in the area. As they made contact, they found he was concealing a large fixed-blade knife, a felony according to the California Penal Code.

The state's felony charge prohibits the concealed carrying of a dirk or dagger. "The penalty for violating this law is up to one year in county jail and a fine of up to $1,000," the law states.

"He was safely taken into custody without incident," they said. During the arrest, they found him also in possession of a switchblade, metal knuckles, possession of drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine, possession of burglary tools, and some stolen property.

According to jail records, Sands was held at the Southwest Detention Center and awaiting his Feb. 19 court appearance at Murrieta's Southwest Justice Center.
