RivCo Man Suspected In DUI Out On Bail After Crashing Into Bicyclist

PERRIS, CA — A 41-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence and fleeing after crashing into a bicyclist in Perris was out on bail Wednesday.

Kenneth Orlando Juarez Vega of Perris was arrested Monday on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run resulting in injury, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

He was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta and released the same day on $75,000 bail, the department said.

Deputies responded around 11:56 p.m. Sunday to a report of a collision involving a Honda Pilot and a bicyclist in the 1600 block of Perris Boulevard, Sgt. Evan Bechtold said.

The cyclist, whose name was not released, was found in the center median with serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in stable condition, Bechtold said.

The driver was traveling southbound at an unconfirmed speed on Perris Boulevard when he hit the rear of the bicycle, who was traveling in the same direction, according to Bechtold.

Vega fled before deputies arrived but was found a short time later and taken into custody, Bechtold said.

A temporary closure of southbound Perris Boulevard has since been lifted.
