RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA—The polls have closed in California. Voters not only weighed in on the hotly contested presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald J. Trump, but Californians also cast votes in plenty of state races, and Riverside County had its own local contests.

Depending on where you live, your ballot may have been chock full of local races. Below are the latest results for everything being voted on in Riverside County — national, state and local. NOTE: The Riverside County Registrar of Voters has an Election Night schedule highlighting how its ballot-counting results are being released throughout the night and in the days ahead. Find that information here.

What does it mean when the results above indicate "100% of precincts reported?"

"Precincts reported" used to be an effective measure of ballot counting, but the widespread adoption of vote-by-mail has changed that.

Nowadays, a race with 100% of precincts reported could mean that only a few vote-by-mail ballots have been counted in every precinct across Riverside County. It's by no means an indicator that all votes have been counted, according to Riverside County Registrar of Voters spokesperson Elizabeth Florer.

When will ballot counting be done in Riverside County?

It will take until at least Nov. 12, if not longer. Any vote-by-mail ballots delivered by the postal service, postmarked on or before Election Day and received by Nov. 12, 2024, will be verified and counted. Election results will continue to be updated daily (excluding Sundays) until all ballots are counted, according to the registrar.

Official vote counting will continue until late November or early December as election officials work to resolve any issues with ballots cast before the deadline. For example, if a voter’s signature does not match the signature on their voter file, election officials will reach out to the voter to resolve the issue before votes are certified.

The last day for county elections officials to certify election results in California is Dec. 5.

Why does the Riverside County Registrar of Voters post election results in static PDF format and under a separate "Unofficial Election Results?"

According to Riverside County Registrar of Voters spokesperson Elizabeth Florer, the "Unofficial Election Results" comprise a test-pilot "real-time" report that may not be accurate.

"It's still in test mode," Florer warned.

It's hoped that any bugs in the test real-time report get worked out this election cycle. In the meantime, county election officials advise residents to track results via the static PDFs that will be updated through Dec. 5. Note: Patch is relying on the PDFs for its reporting.

Will Patch "call" any local races?

No. Patch relies on the Associated Press to call state and national races; Patch will report on those updates. As for local elections — like city council races, school board contests, and local measures — Patch retrieves ballot results directly from the Riverside County Registrar of Voters. Patch won’t declare local winners. Instead, we may report early leaders, when candidates concede a race, etc., but expect Patch updates from the registrar's office through Dec. 5 (the deadline for county election officials to certify the election results).
