Trash Truck Flips On I-215 Near Murrieta: CHP
UPDATED: The CHP says a tire blowout caused the collision.
MENIFEE, CA — Emergency personnel responded Tuesday to the scene of a rollover wreck on Interstate 215 near Menifee, the California Highway Patrol reports. The vehicle involved was a garbage truck that flipped on the northbound side of the freeway, near Newport Road. It landed on its side, on an embankment on the right hand side.
The crash was first reported at 10:44 a.m. An ambulance was called to the scene, however the driver managed to escape without injury, the CHP tells Patch.
According to CHP Officer Mike Lassig, the garbage truck driver was driving in the slow lane of the freeway at 55 mph when the right, front tire blew out.

"He was unable to maintain control of his trash truck, lost control and hit a dirt embankment which caused his truck to overturn onto its side," Lassig told Patch. "The driver was wearing his seat belt and was able to get out alone and uninjured."
Lassig said that the number 3 lane was temporarily closed as a result of the crash so crews could clean the mess up and bring in a large big rig to upright the trash truck.
