Fire Destroys Over 20 Boats, Part Of Dock At Lake Berryessa

The blaze broke out at Markley Cove and destroyed one-third of a dock, Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — At least 23 boats, jet skis and houseboats were destroyed in a fire Friday night at Lake Berryessa.

Part of the boat dock was also destroyed in the blaze that broke out around 10 p.m. Friday at Markley Cove, Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said on Twitter.

Forward progress of the fire was stopped by 10:19 p.m. but part of the dock became detached and was burning separately as it floated in the waters of Lake Berryessa. By 11 p.m., fire activity was minimal.

Multiple agencies responded to assist with the largescale incident, including the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, AMR, the St. Helena Fire Department and the Winters Fire Department.

All told, the fire destroyed one-third of the boat dock. The initial loss was thought to be 10-20 boats, jet skis and houseboats but that number was updated Saturday morning to 23.

The cause of the fire was under investigation and the number of damaged boats can fluctuate as the investigation continues, Cal Fire said.

There were no reports of injuries.
