Results of the weekly round-robin, 9-game tournament.

Sanctioned by the American Cribbage Congress (ACC, www.cribbage.org), the Grass Roots Program (www.cribbage.org/grassroots) is the hometown component of the ACC. Over 200 clubs in N. America competes weekly, bi-weekly or monthly in 6-game or 9-game tournaments. The ACC Grass Roots Cribbage Club #43 meets every Wednesday at Stanley’s Sports Bar in Sharks Ice Fremont on Old Warm Springs Blvd for a 9-game, round-robin tournament. Check in is by 5:45 p.m. so play can begin by 6:00 p.m. Players earn 2 points for a win, 3 points for a skunk (win by more than 30 pegs) and 0 points for a loss. Total points of 12 or more after the tournament earn Grass Roots Points (GRPs) for season and lifetime accumulation. Tournament scorecards are reported as Game Points/Games Won/Net Spread and sorted by Game Points, then Games Won, then Net Spread.

There were 11 players this week, decreasing the players per tournament average to 11.93 (-0.03). Loren Lookabill padded his club GRP lead with a 15/7 scorecard, easily taking first place. Farokh Ziari won 6 of his last 7 games for a second place finish with a 13/6 scorecard. Judy Ross broke her slump by earning her first GRPs since tournament #13 in early December for a third place finish. Congratulations to Larry Rosenblum for earning his first GRPs of his Grass Roots cribbage career by winning his last three games for a 12/6 finish. Last but not least, Wayne Morris broke the 100 GRP plateau with a 12/6 scorecard. Five players earned GRPs this week with only 11 in attendance, very rare. Theo Mattingly finished with a 10/4 after a costly mistake in game 3 against Judy that would have swung her GRPs over to him. We play, we learn.

With eight tournaments remaining in the season, Loren’s 41 point lead is beginning to look untouchable. Based on his average GRPs/tournament in the first 27 tournaments of the season (75%), he is projected to finish the season with 205 GRPs. His finish last night boosted that projection to 216 GRPs.
