Police say they're awaiting the results of a toxicology test to see if the driver was impaired at the time of the crash.
FREMONT, CA — Police say they're investigating a crash in Fremont Saturday afternoon that left a pedestrian dead.
The suspect was speeding and driving recklessly around 4:10 p.m. in the area of Osgood Road, south of Auto Mall Parkway, when officers tried pulling them over, according to the Fremont Police Department.
The vehicle refused to pull over and sped off from the area, prompting the officers to deactivate their emergency lights "in the interest of public safety," police said.

They then lost control of the car and went onto the sidewalk, where it struck a pedestrian, police said.
The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where they died at the scene. The pedestrian's identity was not immediately revealed as the Alameda County Coroner's Office tries to notify their relatives of the death.
The motorist whom the suspect crashed into was examined at the scene, but did not require additional treatment and was not taken to the hospital, police said.
The suspect, identified by police as 28-year-old Fremont resident Antwone Spruill, was also injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital for treatment. He was later taken in connection with several traffic violations, police said.
"Investigators are awaiting the toxicology report to determine if drug or alcohol is a contributing factor," according to the Fremont Police Department.
