ACC Grass Roots Cribbage Club Tournament #35 Summary

There were 10 players this week, decreasing the players per tournament average to 11.824 (–0.055). Unlike recent weeks where half of the attendees earned GRPs, this week there was only one scorecard with 12 or more Game Points. “Fourth Quarter” Wayne Morris has pretty much locked up the club championship for the 2024/2025 GR season with a 15/7 first place finish in tournament #35. There were three 11/5 scorecards from Larry Rosenblum, Judy Ross and Carol Witt.

High Hand action started early with Rich Hammock and Wayne Morris calling out 20-point hands in game 1. Loren Lookabill added another 20-pointer to the list in game 2 until Theo Mattingly trumped everyone with a 21-pointer in game 2. Moments later in the same game, Theo upped the ante to 24 (he won the game by only 14). Wayne and Loren cut to 24-point hands in game 4, ending high hand activity for the rest of the evening.

With a combined 49 GRPs in the GRRT and GRNT and 85 GRPs in the fourth quarter alone (earned in 6 of 8 tournaments played with a 4th Qtr. 65.3 win %), Wayne Morris has a strangle hold on the club GRP lead. With only one tournament remaining in the 2024/2025 GR season (which Wayne will miss), Loren Lookabill needs 21 GRPs (Grand Slam with 3 skunks) to tie while Theo Mattingly needs 24 GRPS (Grand Slam with 6 skunks) to tie. Considering that Rich Hammock had the only Grand Slam of the season in tournament #9 worth 20 GRPs, Loren and Theo have their work cut out for them.
