Board to Discuss Possible Sale of Ruschin School

The Newark Unified School Board will hear two presentations tonight that could bring changes to the district's holdings in the community.

The two separate items are the contract between the district and City of Newark regarding MacGregor and the possible sale of Ruschin School.

Ruschin was built in the mid-1970s and is made up of three buildings:

• A 33,004-square-foot building full of administrative offices and classrooms
• A 6,414-square-foot multi-use facility
• A 962-square-foot restroom building

The campus also includes portable classrooms and restrooms that were built between 1987 and 2010. According to the California Department of Education, Ruschin Elementary closed its doors in June 1989 after serving students for nearly nine years.

The board will also hear from staff about a contract made in 1987 between the district and the City of Newark about the leasing of MacGregor fields.

Newark Unified School District currently leases the fields to the City of Newark for $1.00 per year, indefinitely, according to district documents.
