City Seeks New Planning Commissioner
City council declares a vacancy on the seven-member planning commission.

A seat on the Newark Planning Commission is up for grabs now that the city council has officially declared a vacancy on the seven-member board.
The vacancy was announced at the council’s Thursday meeting after took an Oath of Office to secure his seat.
Marshall, who was most recently vice chairperson on the Planning Commission, was appointed to the city council with a 3-1 vote on January 30 after a total of 12 applicants were interviewed.

His appointment to the council and resignation from the commission leaves one seat open in which individuals can apply for.
Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on February 23 to the City Clerk’s Office at , 37101 Newark Blvd.

The term of the vacant seat is set to expire on December 2014.
Planning commissioners are required to attend meetings twice a month, on the Tuesdays of the same week of city council meetings. City council meets every 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.
The commission’s duties include reviewing and taking actions on applications related to planning. Through analysis and votes, the commission makes recommendations to the city council on land use issues, according to a press release.
Mayor Al Nagy will be the one to appoint a person onto the seat, according to City Clerk Sheila Harrington.
The press release states that upon appointment, the new commissioner will be required to file a Form 700, statement of economic interest within 30 days of appointment and complete a two-hour training on ethics within a yea rof the appointment.
