Beloved Fremont Brewery To Close: Report

New Year's Eve will be the bar's "last hurrah," according to a report by The Mercury News.

FREMONT, CA — A longtime Fremont brewery is getting ready to shut its doors for good after 25 years, according to a report by The Mercury News.

Jack's Brewing Company has been a staple of the community since 1999, and has been referred to by some community members as "the Cheers of Fremont,' after the long-running 20th-century sitcom, according to the report.

The bar was known for its regular open mics, Sunday and Monday night football gatherings, live performances by a wide range of bands and served as a regular meeting place for some community members who liked to use the back room to play games, according to the report.

But rising costs and declining sales have moved the owners to close down, according to the report.

“All of those things contributed to making this industry hard, and people are just drinking less,” one of the owners told The Mercury News. “I just keep crying about it. I’m really upset. I’m going to miss everybody.”
