Council To Vote On Purchasing $30,000 Landscaping Equipment

The council will vote on whether to purchase a new turf rake/lawn sweeper.

The Newark City Council will vote tonight on whether to purchase a new turf rake/lawn sweeper for nearly $30,000.

According to the council’s agenda, the city’s current turf rake/lawn sweeper was purchased 33 years ago and is beyond repair.

The total cost to purchase the new equipment totals $29,852.54, according to the agenda, and would be funded by the City Equipment Replacement Fund in the 2010-12 Biennial Budget.

The monies from the City Equipment Replacement Fund originated from funds generated through , a 3.5 percent utility users tax passed by voters in November 2010.

Councilmembers are scheduled to vote on the consideration of purchasing the new maintenance equipment as a consent item.

The City Council will also vote on whom to appoint as Oversight Board members to its successor agency of the .

The seven-member Oversight Board will be charged with “directing the staff of the Successor Agency, having fiduciary responsibilities to holders of enforceable obligations, approving actions of the Successor Agency and establishing the Recognized Payment Obligation Payment Schedule."

The council will vote on whether to approve the appointments of Mayor Al Nagy and Community Development Director Terrence Grindall onto to the Oversight Board and ask staff to request other agencies appoint members onto the board.

Also at Thursday’s council meeting:

  • Library Manager Brian Edwards will give a presentation about ’s programs and statistics from last year and share what current services and programs are in place at the library.
  • Officer Randy Ramos, Sgt. John Kovach and Officer Karl Geser will be commended for their police work stemming from a that critically injured a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer who lived in Newark.
  • Proclamations of Girl Scouts of the USA Day and Cesar Chavez Day will be made as well as the proclamation of March being Multiple System Atrophy Awareness Month.
