Congressman Mike Honda Visits Newark
Honda is campaigning for the newly formed 17th Congressional District, which includes Newark, parts of Fremont and Santa Clara County.

Congressman Mike Honda (D-San Jose) may live in South San Jose, but he has roots in Newark.
Honda boasted about how he worked in Newark while he attended college while meeting with residents at a Newark Chamber of Commerce luncheon held Thursday afternoon.
Honda currently represents the 15th Congressional District, which includes Milpitas, Los Gatos, Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, and one third of San Jose, but he is campaigning to win the seat to represent the newly formed 17th Congressional District, which includes Newark, parts of Fremont and Santa Clara County.

The are Democrat Evelyn Li, who is a medical doctor, and Charles Richardson who lists himself on the ballot as a Libertarian.
After mingling with attendees, Honda talked for half an hour about his objectives as a congressman and emphasized that education is an important asset in his policy making decisions.

“Education is my real passion,” said Honda, who added he stands by the principle that control of education should be shifted locally and that there is a need to ensure that every child receives education with equity.
He noted that there “should be a sense of cooperation and responsibility for the education of children.”
Honda comes from a background in education. He was once a teacher, principal and school board member in San Jose. He has been an elected official for decades.
The congressman invited the public to contact his office with any questions and said he takes pride that his office responds to inquiries within 30 days.
