Newark, CA – February 24, 2025 – For over six decades, the Newark Rotary Club (NRC) has been a pillar of support to the Tri-City community and beyond, making a lasting impact through service and dedication. Established in May 1961, NRC's mission centers around five key areas: Club Service, Community Service, Youth Service, International Service, and Vocational Service. This broad-reaching commitment has made NRC a vital community partner, supporting local nonprofits, youth programs, and international humanitarian initiatives.
Serving the Community with Purpose
The NRC brings together a diverse group of professionals and businesses in the Tri-City area, who actively participate in fundraising events and community service. One of the club’s signature events, the annual Crab Feed, attracts over 340 attendees and has raised significant funds for local causes. In one year alone, this event raised over $40,000 for organizations such as Abode Services, Drivers for Survivors, Viola Blythe Community Services Center, and Newark Memorial High School Scholarships, to name just a few.
Past president Sucy Collazo says, "Newark Rotary always helps make the community a better place. We are always looking for new members who want to serve and contribute."
Hands-On Service and Community Engagement
In addition to fundraising, NRC members participate in numerous community activities, such as Family Day at the Park, Newark Days Celebration, Viola Blythe Holiday Events, and LOV Thanksgiving Turkey Carving. These efforts demonstrate the club's deep dedication to the Newark area and its residents.

Making a Global Impact
While NRC’s heart is in Newark, the club also extends its efforts to international humanitarian projects. This includes contributions to initiatives such as the Coaniquem Children Burn Foundation in Chile, water projects across Latin America, and the Child AIDS Prevention Program in Africa. NRC has also donated over $30,000 to the Polio Plus Program in support of the global effort to eradicate polio.
One of NRC’s proudest achievements is its participation in the Wheelchair Foundation, providing mobility aids for individuals in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in collaboration with local Rotary volunteers.
Investing in Education and Youth
A strong advocate for education, NRC has invested in local schools, including a recent $2,000 grant to St. Edward Catholic School in Newark to support its math program. Rotarian Nancy Thomas and current Newark Rotary president Mayor Mike Hannon presented the check to Principal Tina Cruz, recognizing the school’s impressive Savvas Envision Math program, which encourages students to solve real-world problems through hands-on math applications. In the summer of 2023, NRC partnered with the Newark Police Department for a Bicycle Safety Rodeo, raising nearly $8,000 to provide 40 bikes and safety gear to underprivileged children. The NRC also made numerous grant donations to the Newark Public Schools to support programs and activities that support Newark students.

The 2025 Crab Feed, held on February 1, 2025, at the Newark Pavilion, was a remarkable success, raising over $40,000 for scholarships and grants.
