Week in Review: Cops Say Home Is Connected To Modesto Homicides; Man Flees From Car Crash
Part of Lido Faire Shopping Center was evacuated Thursday night after a man driving eastbound on Cedar Boulevard crashed into a van and then fled from the scene. Officers said a loaded gun was found in the car he ran from and that the man – identified as Patrick Gregoire, 28 – is wanted on two felony warrants.
A home on the 35000 block of Reymouth Drive was searched Friday morning when Newark police assisted Modesto police with a homicide investigation. Authorities said the home had some kind of connection to a Feb. 10 double homicide in Modesto in which two teenagers were gunned down but what officers were looking for inside the home was not disclosed.
Supervisor Nadia Lockyer announced this week that she is receiving treatment for a chemical dependency. The news came after her husband, state Treasurer Bill Lockyer, informed media that Nadia Lockyer was the victim of an assault that occurred at a Newark hotel. According to media reports, Lockyer said she was attacked by an ex-lover whom she had been seeing while married.

Readers had plenty to say about the Newark Unified Board of Education’s vote to move forward in setting a board policy that would change graduation requirements at Newark Memorial High School so that they would be aligned with courses needed in order to be considered for admission to a four-year college. Superintendent Dave Marken noted at the board’s Feb. 7 meeting that the item would be presented at the board’s Feb. 21 meeting but the item is not currently on the board’s Tuesday agenda.
Court documents published by Newark Patch Monday showed that a Piedmont man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a shooting that injured a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer may have had a “near obsession” with the officer’s wife. The document also showed that the daughter of the 61-year-old man, Dennis Bagwell, told officers that she believed her father “was trying to drive a wedge between the woman and her husband," according to the documents.
