Road Closure Set For Newark Mile Run And Parade This Saturday

Road closures are scheduled to take place this Saturday, Sept. 17, to accommodate the Newark Mile Run and Newark Days Parade.

NEWARK, CA -- The annual Newark Days Parade and Newark Mile takes place this Saturday, Sept. 17 and there will be temporary road closures to accommodate the event, according to the Newark Police Department.

All intersections along the parade route will be closed to through traffic. Travelers will experience traffic delays due to road closures for the movement of parade participants.

Road Closures are as follows: from 5:00 a.m. to the end of the parade:

  • Newark Boulevard in both directions from Civic Terrace to Cedar Boulevard.
  • Thornton Avenue in both directions from Cherry Street to Mayhews Landing Drive.
  • Cedar Boulevard in both directions from Newark Boulevard. to Edgewater Drive.
  • Mayhews Landing Road (both directions) from Fair Avenue to Newark Boulevard.
  • Lake Boulevard from Parkshore Drive to Cedar Boulevard.
  • Chapman Drive from Blackburn Drive to Cedar Boulevard.

Parade information along with the start and staging areas for the Newark Mile Run can be located on the Newark Days website, www.NewarkDays.org.

Police say it's anticipated the parade will conclude at about 1 p.m. Road closures may change as parade and event needs dictate. No Parking signs with the affected times are posted on and around the Parade route.

"Please make sure vehicles are moved in accordance to the posted signs to assist in making sure your vehicle is not towed," the NPD said in a statement.

There will be no pedestrian traffic allowed on the center median of the parade route along Newark Blvd or Cedar Blvd. Seating is allowed on the sidewalks.

People needing to reach City Hall may do so by traveling westbound on Civic Terrace Drive from Cedar Boulevard.
