5 Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 4

A winter wonderland, Christmas decorating tips and PTA service award nominations.

1. Today Bonita Creek Park will be turned into a Winter Wonderland from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a snow hill, a visit from Santa Claus, food, a performance by the Harbor View Elementary School chorus at 12:30 p.m. and much more. For details, call 949-644-3151. The park is at 3010 La Vida, Newport Beach.

2. Roger's Gardens hosts a Christmas decorating event today at 9 a.m. with Eric Cortina, creative director of Roger's Gardens, and Christine McCaffrey, holiday buyer. Learn tips for setting the perfect holiday table, floral arrangements, gift presentations and for entertaining. The event will be held in the amphitheater.

3. Don't forget! The 32nd Annual Corona del Mar Christmas Walk and Festival is Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spend the day in the village enjoying all the holiday festivities, food and fun. For more information click here.

4. The PTA is now accepting nominations for its Honorary Service Awards, designed to recognize teachers, coaches, staff members, parents and community members who have provided outstanding services to CDMHS. The awards will be given in the spring. If you are interested in nominating someone, send an e-mail to  lizkennedynb@gmail.com with the person's name, information about why he or she deserves recognition, and contact information of others who might be willing to give additional information about the nominee. Nominations will be accepted through Feb. 27. 

5. Today will be partly cloudy, with a slight chance of showers, and highs in the low 60s, according to the National Weather Service.
