5 Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 10

A volunteer opportunity, a sobriety checkpoint and a practice SAT.

1.  The Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Local Business and Governance Forum meeting today at 7:30 a.m. Topics will include pollution prevention and informative reports. The event will be held at the chamber office located at 2855 E. Coast Hwy., suite 101. 

2. The Corona del Mar High School PTA is looking for a volunteer to work at the school's library every other Friday, from 9 to 11 a.m. If you are interested in helping out, contact Signe Dunn at signedunn@cox.net.  

3. The Newport Beach Police Department will conduct a driver's license and sobriety checkpoint Friday, between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Newport Boulevard near Finley.

4. Get ready for the SAT! On Saturday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a mock ACT/SAT testing will be held at the Lincoln Elementary School gym, 3101 Pacific View Dr. It costs $10 take the test; proceeds will benefit the Newport Beach Youth Council. Participants need to bring a calculator and two No. 2 pencils.

5. Today will be mostly sunny, with highs in the low 70s, and a wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
