5 Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 14

A school board meeting, a chocolate tasting and Patch Whiz Kids.

1. The Newport-Mesa Unified School District's board meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m., 985 Bear St., Costa Mesa. Read the agenda here.

2. Chocolatier Tracey Downey will be at the Central Library tomorrow, Feb. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. She will present a demonstration and tasting on the history of chocolate. To register, call 949-633-3151.

3. The Corona del Mar High School PTA is looking for a volunteer to work at the school's library every other Friday, from 9 to 11 a.m. If you are interested in helping out, contact Signe Dunn at signedunn@cox.net.

4. Do you know a kid or teen who has done something amazing in class, out on the field, in the community or at home? We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid. Submit your nomination to nisha.gutierrez@patch.com. Be sure to include all of the following information: nominator's name and e-mail address, and Whiz Kid's name, age, school, accomplishment and "key to awesomeness" (what made him/her successful).
