Foggy Weekend Ahead In Newport Beach, Air Quality Alert For OC
Dense fog is expected to hit Orange and San Diego county coasts by Friday night. What to expect.
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Newport Beach residents can expect dense fog for the upcoming weekend as a fog bank moves east toward Southern California beaches, the National Weather Service reported.
"Dense fog is expected to impact Orange and San Diego county coasts by tonight," a NWS spokesperson said. "Timing of dense fog onset is uncertain, with the potential for dense fog to impact beaches in Orange County by this afternoon."
In addition, two fast-moving wildfires that erupted in Southern California this week prompted the NWS to issue air quality alerts from 1:30 p.m. Thursday through 5 p.m. Friday for much of Orange County.

Friday night, forecasters predicted patchy dense fog overnight with low visibility likely. According to NWS, local visibility will be at one quarter mile or less at times through the night.

Saturday morning, the dense fog will hang around near the coast and residents can expect a partly cloudy morning with low visibility due to fog. Temperatures will likely range from 72 degrees at the beaches to 77 degrees farther inland and near higher coastal terrain.
By Saturday night, the fog bank will have largely dissipated and residents can expect patchy fog and light winds.
Sunday, NWS predicted patchy fog in the morning with temperatures ranching from 72 degrees on the coast to 76 farther inland.
On Sunday night, residents can expect dense cloud coverage and light winds.
