Man Charged With Violently Assaulting 79-Year-Old Victim Arrested
The 28-year-old Costa Mesa resident was arrested after he was found fleeing from police officers with a loaded gun, police say.

COSTA MESA, CA — A Costa Mesa man was arrested this week on suspicion of carrying a loaded gun and violently assaulting an 79-year-old man, authorities said Wednesday.
Costa Mesa Police officers were called to the 700 block of 19th Street Tuesday morning in response to reports of a man with a gun in the area.
When officers found the suspect, he led them on a brief pursuit by foot before ultimately being apprehended, authorities said. Responding officers found a loaded handgun on the man, later identified as 28-year-old Jacob Riley Manndavis.

"That's not where it ends — upon further investigation, detectives determined the suspect was also responsible for a violent assault on a 79-year-old man the previous night," the Costa Mesa Police Department said in a statement. "Officers had been dispatched to a nearby hospital where they took a report from the victim, who while pulling his folding shopping cart was suddenly attacked by the suspect."
According to police, the victim suffered serious injuries to his head but was expected to make a full recovery.

Manndavis was booked into jail for attempted homicide, elder abuse, felon with a gun and a parole violation, police said.
