Big Waves Expected at the Wedge
Waves 8-to-12 feet are expected Friday at the Wedge in Newport Beach.

Big waves are expected to roll into today, because of a storm off of Chile, according to Surfline.com.
Wave sets between 8-to-12-feet are expected at the Wedge on Friday. Jennifer Schulz, spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Fire Department, says only expert surfers and bodysurfers should go into the water.
Rip currents also increase significantly with large surf. Schulz says if you get caught in a rip current, don't fight it. Swim out of the current, then to shore. If you can't escape the rip current, stay calm and float or tread water and if you still have trouble call or wave for help.
