UPDATED: Motorcyclist Who Died in Early Morning Crash Was Santa Ana Man

Ammar Omar A Sherbini, 31, of Santa Ana was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash early Saturday on Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach, according to police.

A 31-year-old motorcyclist was killed today when his motorcycle struck the center divider on Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach.

Ammar Omar A Sherbini of Santa Ana was pronounced dead at the scene, said Jennifer Manzella, spokeswoman for the Newport Beach police.

The crash was on West Coast Highway near Superior Avenue and was reported at 2:41 a.m., she said.

Sherbini lost control of his bike and was thrown into a palm tree in the center divider, Manzella said. His bike ended up several hundred feet from the point of impact, said a news photographer at the scene.

The wreck caused the closure of all southbound lanes of PCH and all but one northbound lane, the photographer reported.

The crash remained under investigation by the Newport Beach police, Manzella said.
