School District Forked Out $10K for Attorney to Attend Superintendent's Trial

Jeffrey Hubbard's criminal trial cost the Newport-Mesa Unified School District $10,235, according to Laura Boss, district spokeswoman.

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District paid more than $10,000 in order to have a lawyer attend the trial of Jeffrey Hubbard and report back what was happening in the courtroom, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Jeffrey Hubbard was the schools chief in Newport-Mesa when he was charged and found to a female employee -- -- while he was superintendent of the Beverly Hills Unified School District.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Newport-Mesa school district paid $115 an hour to have a lawyer watch the case unfold. District spokeswoman Laura Boss told the newspaper school district was charged for 89 hours, bringing the bill to $10,235.
