1 Injured in Newport Apartment Fire

The victim suffers moderate injuries. Fire officials say the blaze appears to be caused by plumbing work.

An unidentified person suffered moderate injuries today when a fire broke out at an apartment building in Newport Beach, a fire official said.

The blaze was reported at 4:28 p.m. at an apartment building on Amigos Way in the Eastbluff neighborhood, according to Jennifer Schulz, spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Fire Department. The fire was extinguished when responding firefighters arrived on scene.

Paramedics rescued one individual, who was treated and transported to Hoag Hospital with moderate injuries, Schulz said. Firefighters ensured there was no extension of fire through the walls of the home or to neighboring apartment units.

The fire remains under investigation, but appears to have started as a result of plumbing work that was underway just before the fire started, Schulz said. The fire caused approximately $10,000 in damages to the apartment.
