Newport Beach firefighters rescued the woman, Ashley Engle, on Friday afternoon. She was more than 50 feet up a “steep ravine” trying to get to her 5-month-old puppy, Luna, who got stuck when she ran off during a walk because she got spooked by another dog, according to PETA.

A firefighter had to rappel down the cliff, place a harness around Engle and get her and her dog to safety.
“This dog is lucky to have such a caring and brave guardian, and thanks to the Newport Beach Fire Department’s determination and know-how, both of them made it safely home,” said Colleen O’Brien, the organization’s senior director. “PETA hopes their story will inspire others to come to the aid of animals in need.”
