NEWPORT BEACH, CA — An Orange County man and his wife are striving to make a difference for seniors living in Newport Beach and Irvine.

Amol Kanitkar and his wife, Janhavi, currently own and operate a "Seniors Helping Seniors" in-home care business that stands apart from the rest by focusing on employing trusted, mature caregivers.

"As our population continues to age, there is a growing number of seniors who live by themselves but need companionship and some assistance with their daily activities," Amol told Patch. "Similarly, there are a lot of healthy seniors who are looking for meaningful work that affords them flexibility to work on their own schedule."

"Seniors Helping Seniors satisfies this need beautifully by creating a mutually beneficial arrangement for both," he added.

Amol said that the family's decision to operate the in-home care franchise after 25 years in the IT industry is a result of his own experience growing up in India, where caring for elders is not only a tradition — but a cherished part of life.

"Both Janhavi and I grew up in extended families where our grandparents stayed with us," Amol said. "This really made us aware of the difficulties they faced as they aged and also first-hand experience in taking care of their needs."

Today, Amol and Janhavi draw on the cultural custom to serve families who want to keep loved ones comfortable, safe and connected at home .

"Our mission is to make a positive impact in the lives of the seniors we employ and the ones we serve," Amol said. "To that effect, we aim to correctly pare caregivers and care recipients for a mutually rewarding experience."

Seniors Helping Seniors is currently hiring caregivers to provide in-home care, such as: companionship, socializing, transportation to appointments, medication reminders and personal care.
