Sewage Spill Temporarily Closes Cameo Shores Beach

The Orange County Health Care Agency also posted warnings of high bacteria levels at other county beaches.

Swimmers and surfers were being ordered today to stay out of a stretch of ocean in Newport Beach where the water has been fouled by a sewage spill.

The closed area is at Cameo Shores Beach near Milford Drive, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. It was unclear what caused the spill. In addition, the agency has posted warnings of high bacterial levels for:


  • A 300 foot section of coast extending south from the San Gabriel River jetty in Seal Beach
  • A 300-foot stretch at the south end of Aliso County Beach in Laguna Beach
  • An area 300 feet midway between the Dana Point Harbor breakwater and the San Juan Creek at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point.
  • A similar warning was also posted for all of Capistrano Bay Community Beach.
In Newport Bay, a long-term warning to avoid water contact due to possible urban runoff impacts was in effect at the Harbor Tower Marina atPacific Coast Highway and Newport Boulevard.
