Super-Rare Pod of Sperm Whales Puts on Show in Newport Beach
Resident gets some amazing photos.

An extremely rare pod of sperm whales passed through off the coast of Newport Beach Monday.

Lasanthi Benedict was whale watching with Davey’s Locker around 10 a.m. and caught these amazing moments by camera. The captain of the boat told onlookers that such a great quantity of sperm whales has not been seen in the area since the 1950s.
“It was the most amazing, incredible experience, ever,” she said.
