Thief Steals ATM from OC Liquor Store

An unidentified man backed his truck into a Costa Mesa liquor store and got away with an ATM machine.

A thief who managed to lift an ATM from a liquor store and load it into his truck without any help Wednesday was being sought by Costa Mesa police.

The unidentified man backed up his Toyota Tacoma into Bay Crest Liquor, 333 E. 17th St., and smashed through the front glass window about 5:30 a.m., Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott said.

He then got out of the truck, walked into the store and loaded the free- standing automatic teller machine into the pickup truck and drove away, Scott said.

How much cash was in the machine was unknown, police said.

The pickup truck is silver and had paper plates on it, according to Scott, who said the suspect was wearing a hoodie.
