A Man's Fashionable Best Friend?
The California Collar Company makes pre-made and custom dog collars out of leather, Swarovski crystals, gemstones as well as some engraving work for pooches of most sizes.
For the past three years, the California Collar Company has catered to pet owners that want their pooches to show off a little fashion sense.
It all started when owner and local resident Rilee Fagan adopted a black and white pit bull named Mija. She had a few social problems, but things got better with some patience and training.
Fagan wanted to reward her pet with a new collar, yet found little beyond the generic "spikey" collars.

"I’ve had dogs my whole life. This was the one dog that taught me more than any dog I’ve ever had," Fagan said. "She had a tough start so she needed something special."
She eventually made a custom collar, though the equipment purchased to do so could churn out many more.

So Fagan says she started taking orders online and the success led to the opening of a store at 10546 Burbank Blvd.
She runs the business with partner Mark Walden, staff member Casie Davies and the now 9-year-old Mija, who performs duties around the shop as the mascot.
The business initially focused on larger dogs, but Fagan said a new line of collars for toy dogs just hit the shelves.
Pre-made collars and custom collars made on site from American leather, Swarovski crystals and gemstones. A vegan leather option is available, too.
"All of our leather is raised and tanned in the U.S. everything is made right here, it’s not in some hidden factory," Fagan said.
Collar prices typically range between $50-$100.
