Bomb Squad Evacuates Neighborhood in North Hollywood
During a theft investigation involving the DWP, police discover possible explosives in a home on the 6600 block of Irvine Avenue, the L.A. Times reports.

The Los Angeles Police Department Bomb Squad evacuated a neighborhood in North Hollywood Friday as part of an investigation into stolen building materials by an employee of the Department of Water and Power, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Police discovered a box marked as containing explosives in the garage of a house on the 6600 block of Irvine Avenue where an employee of the DWP lives, prompting the cordoning off of the home and evacuation of nearby homes, according to the story. A large stash of weapons and ammunition was also reportedly discovered.
Wood with an estimated value of $100,000 and believed to be the property of the DWP was discovered at the home by investigators, according to the story.

LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith said that DWP investigators notified LAPD Hollywood Division recently about the theft of "high end lumber from the city," and the investigation led them to the North Hollywood home, the Times reported.
