For Shannon Currie-Holmes and Kenzie Alexander of Cella Gallery, helping to promote the Party on the Plaza was an easy choice. Both have children, one in the Burbank school system and one in the Los Angeles Unified School District, and they have seen how arts education, or lack of, has a huge impact.

"(My daughter) is at Edison Elementary, so she actually gets to feel the benefits of Burbank Arts For All, and its definitely there," Currie-Holmes said. "She has theater and dance and they have a kiln that they can make pottery in. I wish every school had that."

Alexander's son is in LAUSD so she is able to compare notes with Currie-Holmes on its arts education and how it compares with Burbank's.

"There are plenty of people (in LAUSD) that think the arts are important, but their funding is so tight. They don't get it without parental volunteers, period. There is no kiln. It's little, if anything, unless you can get into one of the arts magnets and even then, they are on the chopping block," Alexander said. "And the thing that's frustrating is that all children will benefit from arts education. A small percentage will benefit from sports teams being funded. But sports teams are not on the chopping block in the same way that arts are, and arts help develop so many things."
