Temperatures in parts of the San Fernando Valley could soar as high as 109 degrees.
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — The National Weather Service is urging Southland residents to prepare for a heatwave from Friday through Monday. Temperatures in Sherman Oaks are expected to reach 103 degrees on Friday, 104 on Saturday, 99 on Sunday and 96 on Monday. Temperatures in parts of the San Fernando Valley could soar as high as 109 degrees.
"Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," the National Weather Service said.
The warning advises people who work outside to schedule breaks in the shade or air-conditioning whenever possible. The NWS also issued a reminder not to leave children, pets or the elderly inside locked cars, even with the windows down, as interior temperatures can quickly rise to fatal levels.
