Funny Women Lily Tomlin, Margaret Cho, Elayne Boosler Bring Laughter to NoHo

The comediennes were at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to celebrate 'Women Who Make Us Laugh.'

played host to seven comediennes Tuesday evening. Lily Tomlin, Margaret Cho, Bonnie Hunt, Elayne Boosler, Carol Leifer, Caroline Rhea and Mary Lynn Rakskub were all in North Hollywood to discuss the fine art of making people laugh.

The topics were wide ranging: Tomlin talked about the tiara she wore to the Oscars; growing up ("my brother had a smoking jacket at 13" she recalled;) and her recently deceased cat.

Cho spoke about her start in comedy and her dissections of Asian-American culture, and posited her idea for a new reality television series: Real Housewives of Koreatown, before slipping in her by-now obligatory impersonation of her mother.

Boosler discussed aging ("They clapped because I didn't die yet") and being a woman in comedy. The seven seemed to agree that, in the 21st century at least, humor carried the day, regardless of gender.

"Whoever can carry you from the burning building gets to be the fireman," said Boosler.
