Krekorian Appointed to MTA Board

L.A. City Councilman Paul Krekorian was announced Thursday as one of Mayor Eric Garcetti's three new appointees to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board of directors.

"I look forward to working with Mayor Garcetti, my MTA colleagues, and all stakeholders to tackle Southern California's most pressing transportation issues," said Krekorian, who represents North Hollywood. "Through innovation and efficiency, we need to get more for our transportation dollars and accelerate MTA's work toward enhanced mobility throughout the entire region. This is a critical moment in our pursuit of a seamless public transportation system that cost-effectively reduces congestion in the San Fernando Valley and all of Los Angeles, and I'm honored that the Mayor has entrusted me with this responsibility."

MTA serves as transportation planner, coordinator, designer, builder, and operator for Los Angeles County.  More than 9.8 million people live and work within the 1,433-square-mile service area.  The budget for Fiscal Year 2013-14 is $5 billion.

The MTA is governed by a 13 member Board of Directors that includes the Mayor of Los Angeles and three mayoral appointees.
