Lessons From Lawmen: Don't be a Car Burglary Victim

A local police officer stars in a short film about preventing vehicle burglaries.

While recently perusing the Web for scoops in North Hollywood, I came across a very well made video depicting a day in the life of a local police officer.

The Los Angeles Police Department posted a short film on Vimeo last fall of Senior Lead Officer John Catalano out on the beat.

While in the NoHo Arts District, he came across a few civilians who had left personal belongings in full view on the seats of their parked cars--an ideal scenario for thieves.

Catalano proceed to offer tips on theft prevention. The local branch of the LAPD is constantly reminding citizens that car burglaries can be prevented by following a few easy steps.

• Never leave a spare key with your vehicle
• Store spare keys in a concealed location within your home
• Close all windows and lock all doors
• Park in a well-lit area
• When possible, park your vehicle in your garage
• Do not leave valuables in your vehicle, especially where they can be seen
• Never leave a running vehicle unattended
• Install theft prevention products and recovery systems in your vehicle
