Newly installed Councilwoman Nury Martinez will chair the Los Angeles City Council's Audits Committee, officials said Monday.
Martinez will also serve as vice chair of the Education and Neighborhoods Committee, which deals with the city's 100 or so neighborhood councils, and has been assigned to the Economic Development and Public Safety committees, according to Ed Johnson, a spokesman for Council President Herb Wesson.
Martinez was sworn into office Friday following a July 23 run-off election, becoming the only female elected official in the city of Los Angeles. She represents the Sixth District, a San Fernando Valley area that includes Van Nuys, Sun Valley, Panorama City and Lake Balboa.
