NoHo Library Open Today, Thanks to Proposition L
City library branches restore Monday hours.

The North Hollywood Regional Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library is open Monday, as Proposition L finally.
Proposition L, passed by voters in the March 8 election, increased the city library system's share of public funds to restore recently cut library hours.
Erik Surber, the branch manager, told Patch that library staff—in North Hollywood and across Los Angeles—had been preparing for months for the new opening hours, by interviewing, training and hiring new employees to help existing staff.

Surber was happy to see the arrival of Prop L.
"Of course, it was a lot of extra work initially, but it's good in the long run," Surber said. "As far as the library is concerned, it's just business as usual. We're going to provide the same level of service today as we always do," he said.

There was an added bonus, though. "For my staff, we've got doughnuts," he said.
Surber said that the library was not particularly crowded with readers Monday morning, but that he was sure that would soon change. He'd visited the local neighborhood councils of Midtown North Hollywood, Valley Village and Greater Toluca Lake to let them know of the new hours, as well as posting notices on the library's website and handing out fliers.
It's a busy week for the library; on Thursday, it will be hosting a free film screening of What Is the Electric Car? and raffling off an electric Zapino scooter valued at $3,500. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m; check the website for more details.
