North Hollywood Neighborhood Councils Plan Cleanup of the Whitsett and Saticoy Slope

The hill continually erodes in the rain, causing mud and garbage to collect on the street.

Continuing work that began about a year and a half ago, the NoHo West Neighborhood Council and the North Hollywood North East Neighborhood Council plan to hold a community cleanup day on Saturday to work on the "Whitsett and Saticoy slope," which is a mucky hill located on Whitsett Avenue north of Sherman Way and South of Saticoy Street. The cleanup will be hosted by Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian's office.

The muddy hill is below a building that belongs to the Department of Transportation and continually erodes in the rain, creating mini-mudslides and exposing plumbing pipes.

Patch knows this stretch of Whitsett very well. During a terrible storm on March 21, 2011, we shot some video of the hill being rapidly eroded by heavy rains and witnessed a very large amount of junk and debris collecting along Whitsett, as well as the exposed pipes. (Video is attached.)

The neighborhood councils first held a community cleanup of the slope in September of 2011. The work planned for the hill on Saturday will "further stabilize the hillside by preparing it for landscape plantings," according to the NoHo West NC's website.

The cleanup will begin at 9 a.m. with volunteers gathering in the DOT parking lot. Click here for more information.
