Paralympian Inspires North Hollywood Students to Get Fit

John Siciliano helps youngsters at a local elementary school to get a head start on a healthy life.

Living life with one leg never stopped John Siciliano from achieving his dreams of being an athlete and now, he's using his experience to encourage youngsters to get healthy, the Daily News reports.

Representing fitness program Ready, Set, Gold!, the paralympian recently wrapped a course at Julie Korenstein Elementary School where he taught students the importance of fitness through various exercise techniques.

"When I got in my accident and found out about my leg, it devastated me," Siciliano, who lost his right leg in a car accident when he was 22, told the Daily News. "When I got sports and fitness back in my life, I got confidence to do what I wanted to do in life."

He went on to compete in the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta.

Siciliano handed out Fitnessgram certificates to two fifth graders on Friday.
