What's the Most In-Demand Sammie at Cahuenga General Store?
The ever-growing love for bacon makes the number one pick the most requested sandwich at the Cahuenga Avenue cafe.

Ever since I took the reins for North Hollywood-Toluca Lake Patch, the Cahuenga General Store quickly became my go-to spot for a bite.
It's not only for the very fast WiFi and the lack of curbside parking meters, but because owner Anita Hallenbeck and her staff make some of the best sandwiches in town.
From traditional sammies like ham and Swiss to more experimental combinations like pear and feta cheese (Hallenbeck's personal favorite) that have equally quirky names, this general store has no shortage of satisfying offerings for lunch.

But what's the most popular order?
Hallenbeck has run the cafe for more than 15 years, so she can confidently say it's the Frankenstein.

Served on a toasted cheese bagel, this option comes with grilled chicken, bacon, melted provolone, olives, red onions, lettuce and mayo.
And Hallenbeck says the immense love for bacon that's emerged over the past few years led to the Frankenstein's popularity among locals.
"Everything's better with bacon," she said.
Second and third place respectively go to the Bomb, a breakfast bagel sandwich filled with scrambled eggs and avocados, and an array of vegetarian sandwiches.
I like my sammies a bit more on the traditional side, so I was disappointed that my favorite selection, the Pinky's Deluxe, a ham and Swiss sandwich drenched in Tapatio sauce, wasn't among the popular bunch.
But I guess you just can't fight against bacon.
The Cahuenga General Store also won the Patch readers' choice award for best coffee in town.
The eatery is located at 5510 Cahuenga Blvd. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and closed on Sundays.
