Gunman Killed By Police Outside Valley 7-Eleven May Have Opened Fire At Apartment Building

The investigation into the early-Sunday shooting is ongoing.

LOS ANGELES, CA — An armed man was shot by police during a confrontation outside a 7-Eleven in the San Fernando Valley early Sunday morning.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called at 12:10 a.m. to Sherman Way and Geyser Avenue in Reseda regarding an assault with a deadly weapon near a 7-Eleven. When police arrived at the scene, an LAPD helicopter directed officers to the suspect's location, according to the LAPD.

"The officers confronted the armed suspect and an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken into custody," police said in a statement.

Paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said.

"We have to review body worn video to determine when and if that suspect fired at officers. But for right now we know that the officers were directed to the suspect, an encounter occurred. And that's when the officer involved shooting occurred," Sgt. Bruce Borihahn told NBC Los Angeles.

Police say the man may have fired at a nearby apartment building, the station reported.

No others were injured in the shooting.

The suspect's handgun was recovered at the scene, police said.
