It's Baaaaack: 'Poltergeist' House Listed For First Time In 45 Years
The home made famous in the supernatural horror film 'Poltergeist' is not built atop a cemetery, but it does have curb appeal.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Normally, it would be suspicious when a realtor claims their listing is definitely not haunted and, for good measure, definitely "not built on a cemetery."
But Equity Union Real Estate Agent Lauren Murdock is just separating fact from film legend as she sells the iconic Simi Valley house used in the 'Poltergeist' film. It's the first time the house on 4267 Roxbury Street has hit the market in 45 years, and its brush with horror film history has buyers asking unusual questions.
The home is where much of the 1982 horror classic written by Steven Spielberg was filmed. It's listed for $1,174,999 by the family of the original owners.

"The house has great energy," said Murdock. "It's not built on a cemetery like in the movie. It's just a really great property.
"It has the largest lot in the neighborhood, and although it's a little dated inside, it's in great condition, and it shows better than in the photos."

For some film buffs, the dated but immaculately cared-for interior is the charm. It's entirely recognizable from scenes in the film right down to the white-tiled kitchen counter where little 5-year-old Carol Anne (famously played by Heather Michele O'Rourke) and her mother see kitchen chairs defying gravity thanks to malevolent spirits.

According to the listing, “the formal dining room leads to the infamous kitchen where fans of the movie will love to see it’s still in its original form.”
The home's exterior is also instantly recognizable from the movie.
The home features 4 bedrooms, 2-and-a-half bathrooms and about 2,373 square-feet of living space.
The listing has been up for a week, and it's drawing a steady flow of would-be buyers, according to Murdock. Most know it from the film, but a couple of people had no idea what all the fuss was about, she said.
The hit film, which spawned sequels, tells the story of a young family who moves to a planned community only to learn their dream home was overrun by ghosts that take their youngest daughter. The film's unwitting family soon learns the home was built on an old cemetery.

The original owners who allowed their house to be used in the film have passed away, and their family is ready to sell the home.
"This is the home where much of the first movie of the series was filmed, but 'This house is clean. Seriously, it is!," the listing states. "Don’t miss out on your chance to own this iconic piece of Hollywood history. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live in a home with a story, minus the spooks."
