2 Killed, Another Wounded In Attacks On Homeless In Oceanside

In response to the attacks, the department has increased patrol in parts of the city where the homeless are known to congregate.

OCEANSIDE, CA — Two homeless individuals were killed and another was wounded in a series of recent attacks targeting unhoused people in Oceanside, police announced Tuesday.

The victims of the fatal attacks were discovered Saturday afternoon near the railroad tracks along Oceanside Boulevard and Coast Highway, and Sunday morning in the San Luis Rey riverbed west of Interstate 5, according to the department. Both victims, described only as male, suffered blunt force trauma.

The other recent assault on a homeless individual was reported at 4:17 a.m. Sept. 18 near Coast Highway and the San Luis Rey riverbed. The victim, who was stabbed several times, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The names of the victims were not released.

There was no information available about the suspect or suspects responsible for the attacks. It was also unknown if the attacks were related.

In response to the attacks, the department has increased patrol in parts of the city where the homeless are known to congregate. Homeless outreach team members will also contact unhoused people to advise them of the recent attacks and provide resources, according to the department.
