Carjacking Suspect Arrested After North County Pursuit

VISTA, CA — A carjacking suspect was arrested after a vehicle chase in northern San Diego County, authorities said.

Deputies responded to a report of a carjacking at about 1:25 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of South Santa Fe Avenue in Vista, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

It was reported that five men armed with handguns forced the victim out of their car, Lt. Matthew Carpentar said. The victim was not injured.

Deputies searched the area and found the vehicle near West Vista Way and Emerald Drive, Carpentar said.

"Deputies attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, but the driver fled, and a vehicle pursuit ensued," Carpentar said. "The pursuit ended after the driver of the stolen vehicle crashed into a small median."

Only one person, an adult male, was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, Carpentar said. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. His identity was not released.
