Driver Arrested, Passenger Killed In Suspected DUI Crash In Oceanside

Dejhaun Jones, a 20-year-old Oceanside resident​, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI-related charges.

OCEANSIDE, CA — A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after his passenger was ejected and killed in a rollover crash in northern San Diego County, authorities said Friday.

The crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday on westbound state Route 76 just east of Loretta Street in Oceanside, according to the Oceanside Police Department. The driver, Dejhaun Jones, a 20-year-old Oceanside resident, lost control of a BMW sedan.

Jones suffered minor injuries. His passenger, a 22-year-old Oceanside resident, was ejected and suffered major injuries, including head trauma, Sgt. Clint Bussey said. The passenger was taken to Scripps La Jolla Medical Center, where he died of his injuries at 3:18 a.m. His identity was withheld pending family notification.

Jones was evaluated and determined to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, Bussey said. He was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI-related charges.
