Driver Killed In Solo Vehicle Crash In Oceanside

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV died at the scene of the accident.

OCEANSIDE, CA — A man driving an SUV was killed Monday in a solo vehicle crash in Oceanside, authorities said.

The 36-year-old man lost control of a 2017 gray Toyota RAV4 at 2:47 p.m. and struck a large metal power pole in the 2600 block of Oceanside Blvd., according to the Oceanside Police Department.

"Just prior to the collision, witnesses reported that the driver was being reckless and speeding at 80-85 mph while using the center double left turn lane," Sgt. Clint Bussey said.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV died at the scene of the accident. His name was withheld pending family notification.

The collision was under investigation. It was not yet known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, Bussey said.
